Starting a new adventure!

Day 1: Mountain View, CA to Three Rivers, CA

First leg of our trip - almost four hours of driving exactly. We'll be posting our progress as we go along from Mountain View to Bastrop.

5:00pm - Goodbye, California

Yesterday we said goodbye to our California homes and bid farewell to Mountain View and the Bay Area. The last month has been so incredibly busy that it wasn't until we were sitting in an empty apartment that we had time to soak in and appreciate the gravity of what was happening: For the first time since 2014 we were leaving our California homes to travel east and settle in Texas. We celebrated by playing lots of video games - specifically Hades - and drinking a whole bottle of 3-year-old Martinelli's.

Mary: So empty... Except for the leaves. Those leaves have been tormenting Billy for the last year. I'm sure he won't be missing those.

We also revisited our old haunts. The main one was Castro Street in Mountain View! This is where it all started. The goats went bar hopping, first stopping at Steven's Green and then to Molly Magees to get some cold brewskis. Yum! (Definitely Billy. Beer is gross.)

Billy: For the past few weeks, we have been visiting friends and family, making new memories and reliving old ones, and saying good-bye to those we love. But when it finally came time to pack up Cleetus (my Kia Soul) and leave, it really hit me. California has been such a big part of my life for the past decade. This is where I was able to grow from a new college graduate to an actual adult (kind of). I have so much fondness for the Bay Area that I can’t describe it all in a blog. But now, we are heading east on a new great adventure.

6:30pm - Garlic Doesn't Belong in Ice Cream

Midway on our adventure from California, we were getting the munchies. And hungry adventurers don't reach the dragon to save the princess.

So we stopped by a local farmstand in Gilroy, CA.

I love local farm stuff!

The farmstand had everything two adventurers can want!

Everything!

Especially anything garlic, since this is Gilroy.

These oranges are arranged perfectly. You can see where Billy took out the oranges.

We grabbed all the victuals we wanted before we decided that we were daring and had to try the local faire - the infamous garlic ice cream. Spoiler alert - there are some things that just shouldn't be allowed as an ice cream flavor.

You can smell the garlic before you taste it in the ice cream... The ice cream had a slightly spicy taste, like raw garlic... And you will continue tasting the garlic for hours to come... garlic.

9:30pm - Three Rivers, CA

We finally arrived at our first stop in Three Rivers, CA. Just outside Sequoia National Park. For this journey we are going to be staying in an Airstream!

We arrived fairly late in the evening, around 9:30 PM, so we couldn't really see any of the mountains or hills around us. But we found our Airstream. It's so cozy!
