A special surprise!

Day 8: The Arizona Desert (Keep reading to the very end for a special surprise :-D)

9:40am - The Glen Canyon Dam hike

We started the day embracing the fresh desert morning air (that also comes with lack of oxygen because of elevation...) by taking a hike by the Glen Canyon Dam.

Let's go hikin'!

A path out into the wilderness (not really, you can see the dam's technology in the background)

We found a little buddy along the trail (Mary: I could have stepped on that!)

Not ADA compliant.

A whole oasis of life! So big, so beautiful!

Just kidding, it's tiny.

The dam.

The canyon.

Going back.

It's lonely at the top.

The texture of the trail was beautiful here.

A shrub? A tree? Nope, a rock.  Doing yoga.

5:00pm - Sunset in the desert on top of a rock.

A few days ago when we went to the hanging gardens, we noticed an off-shoot of the trail but we didn't have time to explore.  So we decided to go back.  It led us to the top of a really tall rock.

The trail looked beautiful.

The sun is setting.

Hermit rock (we made up a whole story about this one.  Imagine you're a hermit on that rock, looking towards the mountain, the mountain is yours!!!)

We're on top of the rock! We are king of the rock!

The sunset in the horizon made a weird pattern of lights.

5:30pm - Guess what?!

We're still on top of the rock.

But something special happened up on that rock...

We got engaged!

🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

... and then we ate dinner. (Rimview Terrace - the left is bison steak, right is venison.  This was one of the only authentic Native American restaurants in the area).

Next stop: Ouray, CO (spoiler alert - we never made it there...)
